'Children grow and their furniture grows with them.'
At Lyndensteyn, education and rehabilitation go hand-in-hand every day. Rehabilitation Friesland even has an office directly next to the school. 'Maatwerk (Customisation) couldn't have chosen a better name,' laughs Sietse Planting, Team Leader of the last 2 classes in Primary Education. 'We start from two key concepts for our children: customisation and maximum recovery. Customisation means that each child receives an individual treatment plan. A plan that is focused on maximum recovery, or rather: coping well with their limitations, actively taking part in society and living as independently as possible.'
With the new furniture, every child at Lyndensteyn suddenly had maximum customisation. Sietse relates: 'We ordered 100 chairs, almost all different. The one with a foot rest, the other with a heightened table top or widened seat. Everything is possible and every chair complements what its young owner can do. A chair with wheels for the girl that likes to ride around. And a chair with extra wheels for a boy who sometimes otherwise falls over.'
Maatwerk also lived up to its name here. The chairs for Lyndensteyn were the first with castor wheels. A request from the customer? No problem! Sietse: 'The wheels under the chairs make working with the children easier. Our teachers and therapists now have to lift much less. The chairs are not suitable for long distances but in the classroom, everyone can get around very well.'
'All in all I found the collaboration very pleasant. Roland Ouwejan from Maatwerk was our fixed point of contact and that creates clarity. It was an intensive programme because with so much customisation, things sometimes go wrong. But they are instantly ready to cross all the T's. Due to which we can now continue for a long time with our modular furniture. And if a component breaks or we get a large number of new students? Then we just order what we need separately.'
